the coast and a heat wave just around the corner. we'll sort it all out. and lots of lights. crews on the roadway. i'll show you where you're hitting the brakes through those zones. we'll show those coming up. right now we show you a live look over san francisco, old glory blowing in the wind. very appropriate on this tuesday, september 11th. this is "today in the bay." good morning, everybody. it is 5:00. thank you for joining us. i'm jon kelley. >> and i'm marla tellez. we begin with the latest on developing news. an early morning fire at an apartment complex in the 2000 block of villa monterey in san jose cents osends one person to hospital and forces two more to jump from a second-story window. stephanie is live from the scene with the latest. >> reporter: marla, good morning. i just a couple of minutes ago

spoke with the fire captain, rob brown, on scene who says they have been able to really wrap up this fire and are going to be here to monitor hot spots to make sure nothing flares up again, but five people have been allowed back into their homes so some good news there. really at the height of this fire, it was so big that two men living inside of the apartment that was burning had to escape by jumping off of the second floor. now, let's take a look at some cell phone video captured by the man who lived below the apartment who caught fire. you can see the flames are very big, completely destroying that corner unit. flames shooting out of the roof by the time fire crews got here. we spoke with a next-door neighbor who's in a wheelchair. once outside, he took in the whole scene. >> the whole balcony was engulfed in flames. >> reporter: we hear some people had to actually escape? >> jump from windows. the people next door, they didn't come out the front door because the fire was in the

front room. they bust out the window. >> reporter: one of the two men who was inside that burning apartment suffered second-degree bur burns to his arms. that man is at a local hospital recovering. he was conscious when they got here and talking. crews evacuated 11 people altogether in addition to the two men. they were in three neighboring units. they were also all fine. they are still many of them waiting to see when they'll be able to get back inside. again, one man with second degree burns to his arms. as far as cause, no word yet on what started the fire. live in south san jose, city of tr -- stephanie chuang. today america pauses to remember the thousands of lives lost 11 years ago at the september 11th terrorist attacks. we're looking at new york city where people are gathering to honor those who died. this will be a little different

than past years. for the very first time elected officials will not be allowed to speak. instead victims' families will be reading the names of those who died. similar events will take place at the pentagon and shanksville, pennsylvania, where flight 93 went down. in fact memorials are being held nationwide, including several right here in the bay area. christie smith is live in san francisco where local firefighters will be honoring the fallen with a very special ceremony this morning. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. yeah, this remembrance ceremony is help happening at all 43 fire stations across san francisco. of course the public is invited to attend, but we are at station 7. this is where the mayor and the fire chief will be attending a ceremony and things get started just before 7:00 this morning. what's happening is that firefighters will roll trucks out and stand at attention, then go to the flag poles. they will ring bells signifying the last alarm at the time of

the south tower collapse. they'll lower the flag, have a moment of silence and read the names of all 343 new york firefighters and paramedics who lost their lives 11 years ago. for many san francisco firefighters, the memories and lessons learned are still very fresh. san francisco firefighters, of course, went to help at the world trade center and say that they're still shaken up by what they saw there. since then, though, they say there has been training and homeland security funding to enhance their department here in the bay area. there are a number of events today. of course we are talking about san francisco. here in san francisco all fire stations across the city start at 6:45 to honor the fallen in new york, the pentagon and shanksville, pennsylvania. at 6:49 a ceremony in san jose where the fire chief rings a bell at station 1. also at 9:45 the livermore-pleasanton fire department's chief will speak and there will be a bell ringing ceremony there. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the

bay." 5:04. it was supposed to be a happy family reunion. instead it turned into a deadly accident and now we're hearing from someone who watched it all unfold. casey hahn and his wife were out with his mother, who they had not seen in about three months, when a truck jumped a curb in walnut creek and plowed into them. his mother, 53-year-old sherry hicks, was killed. his wife is now fighting for her life. police arrested this driver on vehicular manslaughter charges. casey hahn recounted what he saw when we spoke with him by phone. >> there is some justice in this world. i hope he can understand my suffering. i hope he understands what he did to our family as a whole. >> nbc bay area has learned over the last decade tabrizi has been

convicted of dui, being drunk in public and petty theft. it is 5:05. police in orinda are stepping up patrols after a recent kidnapping attempt. a 15-year-old girl was out walking her dog and she was approached by a car. that driver demanded she got in. when she refused, he tried to grab her but she managed to fight him off and escape. investigators describing the suspect as an african-american man in his late 20s to early 30s. he has chest length dreadlocks and a thin mustache. he was seen driving an older, black four-door sedan. the bay area father accused of kidnapping his two young children and sweeping them out to sea on a stolen yacht is offering his first explanation for that crime. he faced a judge for the first time yesterday and did not enter a plea but he did speak. he claims he was taking his children from a home where they had been abused. the judge quickly cut him off,

noting anything he said could be used against him. the children's mother denies these accusations. the coast guard rescued the children from the yacht off the coast of monterey friday and reunited those children with their mother. today san francisco supervisors holding a meeting to try to figure out exactly what to do about possible radiation contamination out on treasure island. the question is buying that island from the u.s. navy for $100 million and then plans to build thousands of new homes and a hotel on the property. but that deal does require the navy to clean up any contamination beforehand and a recent report suggests there's more radiation there than they first estimated. 5:07. did you notice a chill in the air? >> i like that. it gets the day started, blood pumping. >> let's check the forecast with christina loren. >> yeah, it might just hit you in the face in the north bay this morning. good morning to you. look at this fast-moving, what is that, a vessel out here? we can only guess what that is because it's so dark.

what i will point out is light house, you can actually see for three to four miles right now. that visibility will drop off as we head throughout the morning hours. we'll see a full deck of cloud and it will be at its most extensive between the hours of 8:00 and 10:00. 54 in san francisco, 53 in oakland, you'll have to wait for the sunshine down in sunnyvale but it will be out in full force. we've got a nice, warm summer day ready. as we head throughout the afternoon, this is what we're expecting. at about 10:00 a.m., still a little cloud cover lingering between san francisco and oakland over the bay bridge and over the san francisco bay, but as we head into noon, that marine layer pushes way back out to city. lots of sunshine in the city by the bay and temperatures just a touch cooler. so your hour-by-hour detail works out like this. bayside you'll be 68 degrees as you break for lunch. lunchtime looks good at the coast, 64 degrees in half moon bay. it's going to be beautiful out there today. 68 in the heat of the day. now, we've got changes on the

way, warmer changes. a heat wave just around the corner. we'll detail that for you coming up. first, let's see what your drive is like on traffic tuesday. >> you did identify for folks a ufo, an unidentified floating object. i see the identifiable construction zone just there off the freeway at high street. north of there we also have construction from 980 down to 16th and that's on the southbound side of 880. you see no slowing but are down to one lane at times. definitely we advise slowing for that cone zone. 24 through orinda, a smooth drive but there's your construction crew there. a smooth drive for the maze getting into san francisco across that bay bridge. more construction zones approaching the freeway heading toward that lower deck. 101 and 180 have a few lanes closed but the freeways are open and so are the on and off-ramps. we'll get a live look outside and here it, 101, san jose, not a problem.

numbers. those hackers loosely associated with anonymous said the numbers came from a stolen fbi laptop. well, it turns out they did not. a company in florida called blued to said they lost the numbers, not the fbi, and it was far less apple data than the hackers were claiming. some of those same hackers are this morning claiming responsibility for yesterday's failure of the internet service godaddy best known for its commercials. it assigns names to and hosts websites. it was knocked offline monday afternoon for a short time. well, we told you friday that intel was worried about people buying fewer computers, therefore fewer chips. intel stung on the markets on monday. seema mody is live to look at the markets. good morning, seema. >> reporter: good morning to you. let's get on to that story right there on intel. the stock continued to sell off on monday. technology leading the markets lower as an analyst cut intel's earnings estimates and investors sold apple ahead of tomorrow's

iphone 5 announcement. traders this morning are taking a cautious stance in front of the fed meeting later this week. of course that's on wednesday and thursday. we do get data out this morning on the trade deficit and mcdonald's reports august sales. yesterday the dow fell 52 points to close at 13,252. the nasdaq moving 32. more households are changing their tv viewing habits. cutting the cord on traditional service. neilsen says 75% of the estimated homes that don't get cable, satellite, phone line or broadcast signal still have their tv sets. many get content through netflix, apple tv or from dvds. nielsen says some people have dropped their service to save money. the number of people with traditional tv service has been on the decline since 2009. that's the latest news, now back to you. jon and marla, have you seen

starting to feel more like fall but we are still going to see a sunny summer finish. 55 degrees in concord. down in livermore, good morning to you. we're at 54 at sunnyvale. the difference between yesterday and today will be more cloud cover to start. it will be just a touch cooler in the heat of the day. 40s to start in novato and santa rosa. as we head through the next hour or so just before sunrise, sunrise at about 6:45 so 48 degrees is cold enough for a jacket in novato. also we'll see the fog thicken between 8:00 and 10:00 and then the sun will burn through. onshore flow still fully in place. throughout the morning temperatures are going to be crisp. maybe about 10:00, maybe 11:00, temperatures will start to come up. feeling more comfortable in the city with upper 60s yet again. winds will play a factor again

today. not quite as much as yesterday but we'll see the breeze pick up between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. we're only dealing with blues on the key, no yellows and oranges, so winds will be a little lighter. today's highs look like this, comfortable. 81 in san jose, 76 in fremont and 87 in concord. we've got a lot to talk about when it comes to your seven-day forecast because change is just around the corner. mid-90s by thursday. beach day on friday. we're going to hold on to warm conditions, if you did want to head to the beach. let's check your drive, here's mike. >> good morning. we'll take you over to the walnut creek interchange where i was tracking an incident. reports of a minor crash, fender-bender. now it's completely gone and no slowing through this interchange so that's the good news for this report. the cone zone through san ramon. no slowing there but the crews still remain so keep that in mind as you come down toward the dublin interchange which moves smoothly right now and in fact

out of the altamont pass, it's still a smooth drive. speeds still just around 60, upper 50s at their worst heading in towards livermore and a smooth drive off of 1st. we'll give you a look at the south bay. with the flow of the northbound commute, easy drive. slowing has cleared and here is your peninsula drive. 101 through palo alto, very nice. through the construction zone right around the embarcadero, no problems, guys. back to you. 5:18. a plan supporters say was meant to protect cell phone buyers in san francisco is now being blocked. the law would have required cell phone dealers to give specific details on how much radiation is put off by each device and warn customers about potential health risks. it would have been the first law of its kind in the country, but yesterday a federal appeals court blocked it from taking effect. the court said consumers might interpret the law as san francisco's opinion on the danger of cell phones. the ruling was made after the

cell phone industry sued the city last year over the ordinance. well, it is new, it is simple and a way to cheat the people who play those scratchers games. investigative reporter vicky nguy nguyen explains how it works. >> reporter: cheaters are counting on you to miss the subtle changes to the surface of the card. scratchers are the california lottery's cash cow. last year players spent $2.7 billion on these games. >> send my kids to college. >> just a thrill, the anticipation. >> there's always a chance. >> reporter: the chances of winning big money are tough enough without cheaters like this store clerk in san jose caught on his own surveillance cameras. lottery investigators say when he wasn't working the counter, he was working over his customers, selling scratchers he

knew were duds. how did he know? because he had already checked them. watch as he leans over this stack of tickets. investigators say he's removing a tiny bit of the top part of the ticket. he's looking for a three-digit code. that code plus the bar code tells him if it's a winner. he sells the losers to unsuspecting customers. the crime is called pinning because they use something small and sharp like a pin. this three-digit code tells him what the ticket is worth. even frequent players can be fooled because unless you look closely, you'd never know the small line of missing latex. >> it's a big enticement. >> reporter: this is the acting chief of the lottery police. yes, the lottery has its own police. >> i look at this as stealing

your tuesday. we'll get a look at the forecast with christina. a lapse in judgment leads to the resignation of a fire chef. that's how tom hagelin describes what happened when roger bloom was caught buying beer for a 20-year-old. this all happened at a liquor store in live oak near santa cruz. the young man was actually an undercover decoy for the santa cruz sheriff's department. >> he felt that for the good of the department and not having this remain the focus of any continued tenure here that he felt that he needed to tender his resignation. >> as a result the gilroy police chief will oversee the fire department until they find an interim fire department. roger bloom had been the interim chief for only one month. this morning the eight-foot seconds of pipe that failed and led to that massive chevron refinery in richmond is on its

way to a lab to know an liesed. federal investigators say the eight-inch section of pipe had thinned dangerously near the spot that returned. a private lab will analyze the pipe for corrosion and other factors that may have led to its split last month. chevron decided to replace a nearby line last year but chose to delay replacement of that eight-inch pipe that ultimately failed, leading to that massive fire. investigators say they're now focusing on whether chevron followed industry standards when they decided not to replace the aging type. >> you know one of the things i love, the cool morning start but it warms up and gets sunny in the afternoon. christina will fill us in. >> i like to call it the rebound, the california rebound. we will see that today. temperatures starting out in the 40s and 50s. we will jump to the upper 80s at 4:00 p.m. in the heat of the day. so yeah, you get the best of both worlds.

an early morning fire forcing people to jump from the second-story of a san jose apartment complex overnight. we were first on the scene and have the latest on injuries and damage done. and 11 years later, the bay area remembers september 11th. i'm christie smith. we'll have a look at some of the ceremonies coming up in a live report. and temperatures will be comfortable today for a summer afternoon. 89 degrees inland, 78 bayside, 60s at the coast and changes around the corner. we'll take you through those. >> and i just got word of a new accident at the dublin interchange just as traffic volume starts to pick up. we'll see how this plays out, coming up. and no traffic here. this is a live look at the south bay, downtown san jose on this tuesday, september 11th. this is "today in the bay." good morning to you.

thanks for waking up with us. it is 5:30. i'm marla tellez in for laura garcia-cannon. >> and i'm jon kelley. good morning, everybody. we start with the latest on a developing story in san jose. two men were forced to jump from the second story of an apartment complex trying to escape flames this morning. the early morning fire breaking out just before 3:00 a.m. at the monterey villa apartments in south san jose. this is cell phone video recorded by the man who lives below the unit that actually caught fire. you can see all the flames engulfing the apartment there. the next-door neighbor says he could only watch as firefighters battled back those flames. >> the whole balcony was engulfed in flames. >> reporter: and we hear some people had to actually escape? >> jumping from windows. the people next door, they didn't come out the front door because the fire was in the front room. they came out -- they bust out the window, the bedroom windows, which is right next to my apartment. >> there's just a dangerous and scary scene there.

one of the two men who jumped from that second floor right now being treated for burns. the other one is said to be fine. firefighters evacuating 11 other people living in four units in this building. the cause of the fire still under investigation. he saw it all happen. this morning a witness is offering a firsthand account of the deadly accident in walnut creek that killed his mother and left his wife fighting for her life. >> he was speeding. we couldn't move. it all happened so fast. he looked with glazed eyes. he was speeding. he came directly at us. there was no time to move. i saw his eyes before he killed my mom. >> that's so hard to hear. casey hahn says he and his family were walking on the sidewalk saturday when a speeding truck plowed them down. his mother, 53-year-old sherry hicks, was killed. his wife, 23-year-old sheng hahn, is listed in critical condition at a local hospital. investigators say they are still trying to determine what led up

to this crash, but nbc bay area has learned the driver of the truck seen here, hossein tabrizi, was convicted of dui in 2005. he now faces vehicular manslaughter charges. in another very sad story, a vigil being held for the lafayette college student who died while tubing down the sacramento river. 20-year-old brett olson being honored at his alma mater at 7:00 p.m. olson disappeared on september 2nd near chico sparking a week-long search. the cal poly san luis obispo student's body was found not far from where he was last seen. today the nation is pausing to remember those who lost their lives in the september 11th attacks. memorials and tributes are taking place across the country, including several here in the bay area.

christie smith is live in san francisco where that city's firefighters are just over an hour away from a special ceremony to honor the fallen. christie, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, marla. hard to believe that it's already been 11 years since the terrorist attacks. of course san francisco firefighters were among those who went to new york city to help out. and today, as they have done before, they are going to hold a remembrance ceremony. and that's about to get under way shortly at all 43 fire stations in san francisco. the public is invited to honor those who died in new york, at the pentagon and in shanksville, pennsylvania. in san francisco at 6:45, firefighters roll their trucks out and then assemble in front of their station, a flag pole. at 6:59, the time of the south tower collapse, they ring bells which signify the last alarm and read the names of all 343 firefighters and paramedics from new york city who lost their

lives that day. of course there are ceremonies going on all across the bay area. in san jose, a memorial and flame-lighting ceremony at oak hill memorial park at 9:00 a.m. they also repeat it at 6:00 p.m. also at 9:45 in union city in the sugar mill landing park, a ceremony at the flight 93 memorial. and at 9:45 in pleasanton, a ceremony that is put on by the livermore-pleasanton fire department at station 1. there will be a bell ringing and the fire chief will make comments there. also here in san francisco where we are at station 7, the fire chief and mayor are expected to attend as well. reporting live in san francisco, christie smith, "today in the bay." a live look now at the people -- the families gathered at ground zero in new york city where a ceremony to mark the 11 years it has been since the september 11th attacks. this ceremony is just about to get under way. coming up in a few minutes,

we'll get a live report from new york on how today's ceremony differs from those in years past. right now we have some very important news for bay area job seekers. today more than 2,000 jobs will be up for grabs in the east bay. the city of livermore and paragon outlets holding a big-time jobs fair. this one expected to feature more than 70 employers and more than 3500 available permanent and temporary jobs. paragon outlets set to open a new 120-store mall on november 8th and they're looking for workers for nearly each and every store. today's job fair starts at 10:00 this morning at the robert livermore community center at 4444 east avenue in livermore. applicants are told to dress to impress and bring their resumes. employers will be doing the hiring, some of it actually right on the spot. >> i've been paying attention to christina loren. she says it's a cool start and a comfortable day. >> i hang on her every word as well. >> let's check the forecast with her. good morning. >> good morning to you.

5:35. taking a live look at the bay bridge this morning, beautiful here. not socked in with cloud cover just yet. we will be. we'll see those clouds start to lower the next hour but if you are heading out right now, you're getting the best drive of the morning in terms of clarity. it's good. visibility looks good up and down for now. 53 in oakland, 54 in sunnyvale and 54 at san francisco. so it is crisp out there. yesterday we saw temperatures fall into the upper 30s in novato. i don't think that's going to be the case for today, but still getting to be more and more like fall each and every morning as our days are shorter and that sun is setting earlier. 77 degrees at noon in livermore. that's when it will start to get a little too hot for your outdoor activities. you'll touch on the upper 80s later on today. 81 in san jose and 69 in san francisco. if you're looking towards 80s in oakland and 70s in the city, we've got that for you just around the corner. stay tuned, your seven-day outlook is in my next report. let's check with mike. >> the bay bridge toll plaza, picking up the volume of cars a

bit but no slowing approaching this east bay hot spot. look at the maps, the dublin interchange. this is an issue. reports of an accident. injuries reported and instead of a solo accident it sounds like three vehicles are now involved. the update from chp saying 25 minutes until a tow truck can get there. this is huge. we're seeing the stack-up approaching the dublin interchange in the westbound 580 commute direction. we don't need another tough day like yesterday for that tri-valley but it's not shaping up well. this might also force some folks to dish out down through livermore as well. a live look outside shows the south bay, picking up volume on 101. at the 680 interchange we do see a good volume of traffic. 880 moves smoothly past the truck scales. north with taillights, south with the headlights and a good volume with both directions. keeping it on the roads, a little advanced, heads up for

commuters, that san mateo/hayward bridge will have to be completely shut down two times during the next month. crews need to close the span to repair a cracked section of roadway. for the past two years they have had steel plates used as a temporary fix but now the bridge authority wants to build a long-term solution. construction will take place during the weekends. mark your calendar, october 19th and the 26th. the bridge carries an estimated 16 million drivers a year. that's a lot of tires on the pavement. 5:38 now. definitely a day of remembrance. we will go live to ground zero in new york where a ceremony is about to get under way to remember the 9/11 attacks that happened 11 years ago today. honor the fallen and it's just begun as we speak. today, of course, marking 11 years to the day of the deadly 9/11 attacks. >> and in that live shot you can see chris christie in there and janet napolitano gathering in new york city. there she is at ground zero. today's ceremony will have one significant difference from those in years past. today in the bay's danielle lee joins us live from new york city to explain. danielle? >> reporter: good morning. yeah, the big difference there is that all of those politicians that you see gathering are not going to be allowed to speak for the very first time. the speaking is going to be held to families who will be reading the names of the victims and there are hundreds of people gathering down at the national memorial behind me for that event which is just about to begin. it will also feature six moments of silence moschiarking those t attacks. some big steps toward healing are really helping people that come today. one, it was announced that many of the first responders and residents who have suffered from

cancer due to the debris following the terror attacks will now receive treatment and coverage under the world trade center health program. that was a big announcement and a big step forward just yesterday. also many people have said that this tribute just isn't complete without that museum which has been on hold because of a financing issue. just yesterday mayor bloomberg announced the financing debate had been resolved and they'll begin working on that museum once again. the city scales back on the event in order to take a step forward in terms of healing. but we do expect the ceremony to begin any minute and last until about noon or 12:30 today. i'm danielle lee, now back to you. >> all right, can ydanielle, th you very much. it is 5:42. the remembrance of the september 11th attacks impacting that race for the president. tracie potts is live in washington. she has all the details. good morning. >> reporter: jon, good morning. in just a few minutes, president obama will lead the nation in a

moment of silence the moment the first plane hit the first tower on september 11th, 2001. and he will today go to the pentagon where they're having a memorial as well. the president and mitt romney both pulling their ads, negative ads, off tv today in remembrance of the more than 3,000 victims of 9/11, those who died on that day. vice president biden in shanksville, pennsylvania, today where he'll speak at the flight 93 memorial. they are still trying to get $5 million together to finish that one, even though it was dedicated a year ago on the tenth anniversary. mitt romney today at the national guard association convention in reno, nevada. he will speak there in what's said to be a nonpolitical speech. and as was mentioned, as my colleague, danielle, mentioned, no one at ground zero. the president is staying here. they want to keep the focus off the politicians and on the people who were impacted by 9/11. >> okay. well, it's awfully interesting, no surprise though, really, that

you mentioned that the candidates of course are pulling all negative ads. was that in advance -- did we know this in advance or was this something that was decided today? >> reporter: we knew that in advance. and it's not unusual on 9/11. but this is an election year, in the middle of a heated campaign, but they really want the focus today to be on remembrance. >> absolutely. as it should be. tracie potts live for us in the nation's capital. right now, though, the president is just about to lead the nation to observe a moment of silence at 5:46 this morning. of course our time. the north tower of the world trade center was hit by flight 11. less than 20 minutes later the south tower was hit by united airlines flight. flight 77 crashed into the pentagon. at 7:07, passengers aboard flight 93 tried to wrestle control of the plane back from

hijackers. that plane bound for san francisco ultimately crashed in a field in shanksville, pennsylvania, killing everyone on board. of course this moment of silence is going to happen at 5:46. it is now 5:45. we are just less than a minute away when we will take this time to mark the moment of silence. >> also part of that that will happen, family members of victims will be reading the names in pairs of all the people that died during that 9/11 attack back 11 years ago. right now a moment of silence.

22nd of september and that's less than two weeks away now. temperatures are going to be nice today. a nice summer-like tuesday shaping up for you. we are losing visibility in parts of the bay area, especially down in gilroy. you're down to five miles and these numbers will continue to drop off as we head throughout the morning. 54 degrees in sunnyvale, 54 to start out in san francisco. holding on to the upper 40s in the north bay. we had the 30s yesterday. novato dropped from 45 to 39 in the matter of a half hour. today high pressure is in control but a weak trough comes through. this is going to keep that sea breeze in place. that nice westerly flow. beautiful ocean air carried all the way to the tri-valley and that means gorgeous conditions. for sitting on the patio, maybe you want to have a barbecue later on. 70s and 80s inland. you'll lose that cloud cover, getting a lot of sunshine at the coast. as of about 10:00, maybe 11:00 today, full-on sunshine in san francisco bringing your

temperature up to 69. 82 in los gatos and no 90s on that temperature map just yet. by thursday the mid-90s return. if we're talking about 95 grows in places like livermore, we could actually see those triple digits down in gilroy, so we'll keep watching that for you. beach day on friday. the good news is if you don't like the heat, at least you can hit the beach this weekend as temperatures will be in the 70s, really comfortable on saturday and sunday. let's check your drive. here's mike inouye. >> better news for the dublin interchange. i was very concerned. they said 25 minutes until tow trucks were going to arrive. that still sounds like the case, but the cars, the vehicles involved in this crash have moved to the shoulder. there are injuries reported as well, so this could be quite a bit of a distraction, but the big jam has sort of evened out. no lanes are blocked now but look at all the slowing now as your coming out of the altamont pass, in through livermore and slowing considerably in through

story throughout the morning today. just about 5:54. it appears for the most part fans are sharing the new stepped-up security measures at last night's raiders game. for the first time last night everyone attending the game was required to walk through a metal detector. the new procedure is league wide and officials had warned fans that the new procedures could lead to delays getting into the game. in addition to the metal detectors, police announced a zero tolerance policy for rowdy fans. we caught this video of one fan getting arrested. in all the alameda county sheriff says there were at least 15 arrests. authorities also posted new banners all over the coliseum where a number of fans can call or text to get help from stadium security. well, despite budget cuts and a multimillion -- actually multi billion dollar deficit, a new analysis showing california still has one of the strongest economies in the entire world. california's economy is the

world's ninth largest according to the world bank. the state has a gross domestic product of nearly $2 trillion and it's the only economy in the top ten that isn't its own country. as for the top five largest economies, the united states is on top with more than $15 trillion in gdp. the u.s. followed by china, japan, germany and france. could strong sales of the iphone 5 help california edge out france for the fifth spot on that list? business and tech reporter scott mcgrew says, well, probably not. >> probably can't do that but don't laugh because the iphone 5 will have a major effect, not just on california's economy, but the entire economy of the united states. this, according to analysts at jpmorgan, who say sales of the new iphone could actually boost america's gdp by as much as half a percent in the fourth quarter. apple will announce the new iphone in san francisco. analysts expect eight million of them to be sold in the month of october, november and december.
